ECAA Roundup 10/01/2021

October 1, 2021

Trick or Treat Promotion for Your Business
This year ECAA is giving members an opportunity to advertise their businesses at the upcoming Harvest Festival in downtown Elizabeth. And you don’t even need to leave home yourself that night. We will be handing out about 700 swag bags to the trick-or-treaters; and are opening up the opportunity for bag sponsors to include promotional materials, and candy of course, in the bags. Simply buy a sponsorship for $35 then deliver your business’ brochure and candy contribution by Friday, October 22nd. Bags will be handed out on October 30th beginning at 11:00 a.m. And of course, you are welcome to join us in handing out bags that night and see all of the happy kids in their costumes. Email execcom@elbertcountyagalliance.org for more information or to sign up.

Pin Up Chicks
ECAA will have 2022 Defend the Flock wall calendars available this month. Email sheila.zuschek@elbertcountyagalliance.org if you would like a calendar. Each month features a colorful poultry picture along with tips and reminders for how to keep your flock healthy.

Crop Management for a Better Environment and Plant Health
In this video Dr. Charles Rice of Kansas State University discusses strategies for sequestering nitrogen and reducing carbon emissions from fields: https://www.agweb.com/news/crops/corn/row-crop-recipe-practices-help-agriculture-reduce-nitrogen-loss-cut-carbon.

Keeping Your Root Harvest
We’ve had a longer season than usual, but it’s time to start thinking about preserving the harvest. Check out this video on best practices for storing root vegetables: https://youtu.be/k7rk-ViwAtE.

Ready for Winter?
Is your winter prep checklist complete? If you’re not sure you may want to participate in the El Paso County Extension’s program on Winter Farm Management. The class will be held online from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. on October 20th. The cost is $35. For more information go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/winter-farm-management-class-online-tickets-181351165217?aff=ebdsoporgprofile&fbclid=IwAR1uoiAwtM90G_aDB1jSf30MQGvkNQWpAvjf8cuhG4a5fvna-tLas_Pb5FU.

Energize Your Destination
The state is offering grants through the Colorado Energy Office for businesses wishing to install electric vehicle charging stations. If you have a destination business you may want to consider making this service available to potential customers, which will also allow you to list your business on charging station maps.  Applications open October 4th and are accepted until October 18th. For full information go to:

Don’t Forget the Member Meeting
ECAA will hold an in-person member meeting and potluck at Casey Jones Park Pavilion on Saturday, October 16th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Bring a beverage and bring a dish. Tables and chairs will be provided. We’ll be eating and mingling throughout, with a break for introductions, announcements, and questions at 4:30 p.m., then back to mingling and eating. Announcements will be emailed to members who cannot attend.
