ECAA Roundup 10/15/2021

October 15, 2021

Potluck and Member Meeting
Don’t forget this Saturday is your opportunity to re-engage with the agricultural community at the ECAA potluck and member meeting. It will be held at Casey Jones Park Pavilion beginning at 3:00 p.m. There will be food, conversation starters, a pumpkin carving contest, and other activities. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at last, sharing inspirations, and building our community. As a business matter we will also be voting on the election of Wendy Walp as treasurer and two changes to the bylaws outlined here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L0V5IZg1Cum6wsrPNLOWR2B__6vzyfjz/view?usp=sharing. See you soon!

Irrigation Guidance for Small Acreage
In a county where we rely on the finite resources of aquifers for our water we have to be even more careful about how we handle drought conditions. The CSU Extension has a variety of resources for how to conserve water and cope with drought. An especially useful tool is this guide for irrigating small acreage: https://sam.extension.colostate.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2017/04/sam-irr-guide.pdf .

Promotion Opportunity
On Halloween weekend you have the opportunity to put your promotional materials in the hands of hundreds of local residents. ECAA will be handing out about 700 swag bags to the trick-or-treaters at the Elizabeth Harvest Festival on October 30th and are giving an opportunity for bag sponsors to include their own materials and candy. Simply buy a sponsorship for $35 then deliver your business’ brochure and candy contribution by Friday, October 22nd. Bags will be handed out on October 30th beginning at 11:00 a.m. You are welcome to join us in handing out bags that day and see all of the happy kids in their costumes. Email execcom@elbertcountyagalliance.org for more information or to sign up.

Colorado Agricultural Future Loan Program Hearing
If you are interested in the processes being developed in support of the Colorado Agricultural Future Loan Program there will be a rule making hearing on November 18th. For more information and to register to attend the hearing via Zoom go to: https://www.dora.state.co.us/pls/real/SB121_Web.Show_Rule?p_rule_id=9078.

Santa’s Little Bakers
Join in the community Christmas cheer as a Christmas Cookie Elf and help ECAA raise funds for our agricultural and homesteading programs. We need baker elves and booth elves (costume not required) for the Elizabeth Christmas tree lighting on December 4th. In the meantime email Sheila.zuschek@elbertcountyagalliance.org if you are interested or have questions.

Cottage Food Safety
Don’t forget to keep up your certification in Cottage Food Safety. Classes are available this fall. To see the full schedule go to: https://engagement.source.colostate.edu/food-safety-training-for-cottage-foods-producers/. Classes cost $40.
