Trivia

In 1995 what vegetable became the first to be grown in space?

Welcome the Renee Burton Agency

ECAA Chair-Elect Renee Burton is passionate about small farms and has now located her insurance office in Elbert County, where she is happy to review your farm insurance needs. Come out to celebrate with her at a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house Friday, November 4, from 6-8pm. Her office is at 133 CR-17, Unit C2-E in Elizabeth.

Honeybee Vaccines Pending USDA Approval

A recent study has shown that brood from queens vaccinated against American Foulbrood are more resistant to the disease. Larger scale studies are needed, but the vaccine is pending conditional licensing in the United States. For more information go to: https://www.popsci.com/science/honeybee-vaccine-disease.

Harvest Festival Packet Stuffing Party

We’re packing up the bags for the kids on Saturday, October 22nd from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Ponderosa Plains Farm, 4999 Spruce Court. Stop by to chat with your farm friends and help get the word out about ECAA. Many hands make light work and the company is good too.

Scrap Metal Donations Needed

Elizabeth High School Auto Shop is looking for scrap metal. Students are learning the basics of MIG welding. Engine parts, bed frames, sheet metal, round, square and flat stock all can be welded into art. Contact dspohn@esdk12.org for pickup.

Spur Field Trip

Are you signed up for the field trip to the Spur on November 12th? The Vida and Terra centers are open and coincidentally the Spur has begun holding 2nd Saturday events that are free and open to the public. The family-friendly programming includes cooking activities in the CSU Spur kitchen, opportunities to watch veterinarians perform surgery on dogs and cats, see horses assisting with human therapies, engage with scientists at work, and play in a kid’s kitchen and kid’s vet clinic – allowing kids to become a veterinarian for the day and fix up stuffed animals. A food truck is available for lunch purchase. Sign up to join us on the 12th at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/264890373237.

If you have announcements or classifieds that should be included in the next Roundup? Send them to news@elbertcountyagalliance.org.
