ECAA Roundup 10/29/2022

October 29, 2022

Harvest Today!

Be a part of the community and cheer on your ECAA volunteers by stopping by to say hello and maybe even handing out a few treat bags to the kids on Main Street in Elizabeth today. This is the second year we have offered members an inexpensive opportunity to add promotional materials and treats to our gift bags at the Elizabeth Area Chamber of Commerce’s Harvest Festival. In addition to candy we are also handing out ECAA coloring sheets and crayons. Start thinking now about how you want your coloring sheet to look next year!

Affordable Rural High Speed Internet

Residents in northern Elbert County as well as in nearby counties will be the beneficiaries of a USDA grant to the Eastern Slope Rural Telephone Association. The $18.7 million dollar grant is earmarked to create a fiber-to-the-premises network connecting thousands of people, 898 farms, 110 businesses and 17 educational facilities to high-speed internet in Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Crowley, Elbert, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lincoln and Washington counties. Read the news release here: https://www.rd.usda.gov/newsroom/news-release/biden-harris-administration-provides-187-million-eastern-slope-rural-telephone-association-hugo.

Cattle Roping

Messer Arena will hold a live cattle roping event on November 11th from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Cost is $40 to participate. For more information go to: https://www.messereventcenter.com/calendar.

What kind of meat is the most consumed per capita in the world?

Don’t Forget!

ECAA Chair-Elect Renee Burton invites you to the ribbon cutting and open house for her new insurance agency here in Elbert County, where she is happy to review your farm insurance needs. Come out to celebrate with her Friday, November 4, from 6-8pm. Her office is at 133 CR-17, Unit C2-E in Elizabeth.

Elves Needed!

We are beginning to turn our attention to community service for the holidays, and are looking for baker elves and server elves. Baker elves will make one to four dozen five-inch sugar cookies to freeze for the event. (We will supply the cutters!) Server elves will pack them into decorating kit bags and hand them out at the  Elizabeth Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting on December 3rd. This is a great family activity! We had so much fun last year. Sign up to volunteer at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ecaa-cookie-kits-for-the-elizabeth-mayors-christmas-tree-lighting-tickets-264885548807.

Spur Field Trip

Are you signed up for the field trip to the Spur on November 12th? The Vida and Terra centers are open and coincidentally the Spur has begun holding 2nd Saturday events that are free and open to the public. The family-friendly programming includes cooking activities in the CSU Spur kitchen, opportunities to watch veterinarians perform surgery on dogs and cats, see horses assisting with human therapies, engage with scientists at work, and play in a kid’s kitchen and kid’s vet clinic – allowing kids to become a veterinarian for the day and fix up stuffed animals. A food truck is available for lunch purchase. Sign up to join us on the 12th at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/264890373237.

If you have announcements or classifieds that should be included in the next Roundup? Send them to news@elbertcountyagalliance.org.
