ECAA Roundup 2/11/2022

February 11, 2022

Ready for Chicks?
Chicks are arriving at 40 Mile (Kiowa) the week of February 24 and at Jill’s Feed (Elizabeth) the week of February 28. Big R Elizabeth, Strasburg Feed, and Big R Falcon plan to have chicks in March. Just in time, ECAA is offering its popular classes for new and experienced chicken tenders. Chickens 101: Starting from Scratch is for those who are starting with chicks for the first time. We will cover selecting breeds, preparing the brooder and providing for the chicks’ basic needs as they grow. Chickens 102: No One Here But Us Chickens begins at 2:00 p.m. and will cover health and safety issues. Dues paid members are free. Non-members pay $15. The class will be held online February 26th at 1:00 p.m. To register go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/chickens-101-and-102-tickets-253386023417.

More to Come
Two weeks ago the Roundup gave a long list of programs that were in the works for this year: from composting to socializing roosters, from family fun field trips to member mixers, from parades to volunteer opportunities, and of course the Homestead Festival set for October 8th. We have a lot going on this year and almost all the sign-up links are live now. To see the schedule and find the links go to https://elbertcountyagalliance.org/events. We are still adding events and volunteer opportunities now and through the rest of the year. Watch the Roundup, Facebook page, and the website for announcements. The most comprehensive list will be found on the website.

Top Chili Honors
Top honors went to two of our ECAA members at the ECAA Community Chili Cookoff last week. Tonya Roche if Lucky Acres Alpaca Farm won first prize with her unforgettable chili. Bob Hammervold won third prize with his entry. Everyone had a lot of fun and we’re already excited about next year’s cook off. Check out this article in Ranchland News for all the details by clicking here. Thanks again to our host venue, Once Upon A Time Events. And thanks also to our judges: John Braden of Mountain Wave Weather, Elbert County Sheriff Tim Norton, County Commissioner Grant Thayer, and Jim Ripple of Hoot and Ruger.

Vendors Needed
The Elbert Booster Club is seeking vendors for its annal Craft Fair & Plant Sale on Saturday, April 30th. Contact Wendy Walp for details at 303-243-1308.

Save the Date for the Next Board Meeting
The next meeting of the ECAA Board of Directors is Friday, March 11, 2022 at noon via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85785980836?pwd=aEJoL1NwOXJHSXZRampGTWhzeCt2UT09. And don’t forget to sign up for the member potluck on Saturday, April 9th by clicking here. Non-members are welcome too!

Many Hands…
You don’t always see the people behind the scenes making ECAA programs and activities happen, but we are here pitching in and even having some fun. Many of us have found that we get more out of our ECAA membership just by serving a few hours on a week or even at a one-time event. If you like the ECAA programs and want to see more have a chat with one of the board members about your interests and availability. Some volunteer opportunities for special events will be listed on our events page as the opportunities come available. To make sure we don’t miss out on including you in upcoming opportunities reach any member of the board of directors at bod@elbertcountyagalliance.org or call: Bob Hammervold (303.249.7681) or Sheila Zuschek (303.918.5700).
