Saving the Heritage Milking Birds

Learn and Share at the Member Meeting
Meet other members, share your projects, find out what others are doing, learn about ECAA initiatives and programs, and test your agricultural knowledge. Mix, mingle, and snack before a brief member meeting, which will be followed by agricultural trivia. There will be a prize for the trivia winner. The event will be held Saturday, April 9th at the American Legion in Elizabeth. Sign up to let us know you are coming at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ecaa-member-meeting-potluck-and-agricultural-trivia-tickets-258270793897.

Goats and Sheep Class
Goats and sheep can be great additions for small market-farms and ranches or a way to diversify a larger agricultural operation. But, if you’re not accustomed to some of the unique needs of raising and caring for ruminants to produce meat, fiber, or milk you can run into some frustrating situations. The El Paso County Extension is offering a class to cover the basics of getting started in goats and sheep including supplies, health care, nutrition, and breeds to consider. The class costs $60 and will be held April 21st online from 6:00-9:00 p.m. To register go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/goat-and-sheep-class-online-tickets-302946460017

Highly Pathogenic Avian Flu in Colorado
A highly pathogenic avian flu is now in Colorado flyways.  Please visit USDA’s Defend the Flock Program website to for in depth information about which biosecurity practices can keep your birds safe. It is critical to report sick birds or unusual bird deaths by calling the Avian Health Hotline at Colorado State University: (970)297-4008. This includes if you find multiple wild birds in a short period of time.

If you have announcements or classifieds that should be included in the next Roundup? Send them to news@elbertcountyagalliance.org.
