Tourism Survey for Elbert County

Is your business related engaged in agritourism? If so, please participate in this survey on tourism in Elbert County. The Eastern Colorado Council of Governments has received a grant to develop a tourism program for Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, and Lincoln Counties. Conducting surveys of both resident sentiment and tourism business needs is the first step in that process. Please participate to make sure Elbert County is fully represented in the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CCP_TSS.

Help the Hungry Offer

Parker Water and Transportation District is offering free 225-gallon water storage tote to those who give a $50 donation to local food banks. These re-purposed totes are great for agricultural use (not to be used for drinking water). It comes with a hose connection and shutoff valve. If you are interested, please contact James Roche by calling 720-842-4247 or email jroche@pwsd.org.

Selecting a Ram

If you are in the market for a ram this year check out this handy article with a checklist of things to look for when selecting your breeding stock. https://smallfarms.cornell.edu/2022/07/buying-a-ram-for-breeding-purposes/

Flying the Coop

Sitting around wondering at my three escape artist hens who can manage a vertical lift of eight feet to top their fence led me to this interesting article on why chickens are no good at flying. Check out the article for yourself: https://www.livescience.com/57139-why-chickens-cannot-fly.html. With any luck my girls will grow out of it.

Trivia

What are Elbert County’s primary cash crops?

Member Promotional Opportunity

One of the biggest events in Elizabeth is the Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Harvest Festival on October 29th where local businesses hand out candy to the kids. ECAA will be joining the Harvest Festival again this year with grab bags for the kids. Last year we had a blast and handed out over 700 bags. You can get a space for your business in the grab bag for just $25. Then you provide your candy along with your business card or promotional materials. We are also looking for volunteers to help stuff and hand out the bags. To sign up go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ecaa-candy-bag-grab-at-the-elizabeth-area-chamber-harvest-festival-tickets-264864435657.

Don’t Forget the Homestead Fair!

Don’t forget next week is the Homestead Fair at Casey Jones Park. Pancakes start at 7:00 a.m. Vendors open at 9:00 a.m. Come join the fun! Volunteers are needed Friday and Saturday for setup and tear down. A member social will follow the fair, so don’t forget to bring a beverage.

If you have announcements or classifieds that should be included in the next Roundup? Send them to news@elbertcountyagalliance.org.

Trivia Answer: Grass hay and alfalfa.
